Financing instrument for the promotion of democracy and human rights worldwide

description and objectives

The global objective of this Call for Proposals is to support civil society working on human rights (political, civil, economic, social and cultural) and democratisation, so as to:

1. pursue common agendas for human rights and democratic reform
2. build towards consensus on disputed or controversial areas of policy
3. enhance political representation and participation
4. enhance the inclusiveness and pluralism of civil society
5. support activities aimed at promoting the issues covered by EU guidelines on Human Rights.

The specific objective of this Call for Proposals is to promote initiatives supporting activities and capacity building of new or fragile civil society organisations formed by groups whose interests are underrepresented, or otherwise contributing to the empowerment of such groups for instance minority groups, people with disabilities, women workers, children and Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) groups.

All proposed activities should strive to achieve practical results (the following list is non-exhaustive):

• Activities for strengthening of existing civil society platforms, networks and coalitions, including building of information sharing mechanisms
• Joint activities with public institutions and parliamentary bodies
• Activities for the institutionalisation of consultation mechanisms between civil society and national or local public institutions
• Collection of data and research-based advocacy
• Monitoring and watchdog activities
• Advocacy campaigns
• Awareness raising and public communication activities
• Conflict resolution and mediation activities
• Capacity building activities for the mobilisation of underrepresented groups

Opened to the following bodies or institutes with legal status established in the covered areas:

• Non-governmental organization
• Any legal organisation

Bodies or institutes must have their registered legal seat in one of the countries taking part in the Programme which are:

• Third countries

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:

• Orientation of the budget: 0.90 M€
