Objectives
The global objective of this call for proposals is to support multi-country actions proposed and implemented by Local Authorities (LA) and Associations of Local Authorities (ALA) from the EU Member States and partner countries, in order to empower LA and ALA in public policy making in line with international development commitments (i.e. Millennium Development Goals); to promote and support regular structured and inclusive dialogue with their communities and in multi-stakeholder forums.
Actions
The following actions are examples of them which LA or ALA may undertake within the objectives of this call for proposals (the list is not exhaustive):
Support to Local Authorities in partner countries
- Actions in sectors that fall within the responsibilities, competence and expertise of LA, to improve good governance and reinforce institutional capacity;
- Actions to strengthen citizens' participation through interaction between LA and the local population/grassroots organisations in the elaboration and implementation of participatory local development;
- Actions to build the capacity of Local Authorities and Associations of Local Authorities at regional, continental and international and, indirectly, national level; Support for exchange of experiences between LA and/or ALA in order to strengthen partnerships, associations and networks of LA, particularly crossborder exchanges in partner countries in the scope of actions in the areas referred to.
Development Education and Raising Awareness of Development issues in Europe:
- Exchange among LA and LA Association on specific educational methodologies to raise development awareness within their communities;
- Introducing specific study curricula within schools, if Local Authorities have institutional competencies in the education sector;
- Organisation of a campaign to build-up a local strategy tackling MDGs and bringing together different actors, such us LA, CSO, individual citizens, private companies;
- Promotion of concrete changes in behaviours at individual and collective levels, within political institutions and private sector, in relation to development.
European community funding
The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:
- 16,24 Million EUR (Global Budget)
