The European Commission, Directorate-General for Mobility and Transport is hereby launching a call for proposals, under the multi-annual work programme for the Trans-European Transport Network (TEN-T) for the period 2007-2013, in order to award grants to projects in the field of River Information Services (RIS).

River Information Services are regulated through Directive 2005/44/EC3, which defines binding rules for data communication and RIS equipment as well as the minimum level of RIS Services and through the Commission Regulations established hereunder. The Directive provides the framework for the deployment of harmonised and interoperable RIS systems and services and will together with the Commission Regulations constitute the legal reference framework to be fully respected.

For the TEN-T programming period 2007-2013, projects shall focus on the deployment of enabling infrastructure and on the provision of River Information Services. The multiplicity of these services requires an advanced level of Europeanwide interoperability and compatibility of the services themselves, of the enabling technologies behind and of the related processes.

The support of the deployment of RIS infrastructure will lead to the setting up of the initial layer for fully integrated River Information Services, supporting inland navigation from the Atlantic and North Sea to the Black Sea where RIS will constitute a major asset in terms of safety, security and environmental friendliness.

The Community provisional funding available for the call for proposals is:
